Morocco in a fiery group at Cannes U17
Today, Wednesday, in Cairo, the draw for the African Cup of Nations football competitions for the under-17 category was held, which Morocco will host during the period between May 13 and June 2, with the participation of 16 African teams.
The draw resulted in Morocco topping the first group, as the host country, along with Tunisia, Egypt and Ethiopia, while the second group consists of Côte d'Ivoire, Cameroon, Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The third group includes Mali, Angola, Tanzania, and Mozambique, while the fourth group consists of the teams of Senegal, South Africa, Algeria, and Ghana.
According to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), the African Cup of Nations for the under-17 category (Morocco 2026) will see 10 African teams qualify for the World Cup for the under-17 category, which the State of Qatar will host next November with the participation of 48 teams.
The first and second teams from each group qualify for the knockout stage, while the top eight teams (quarter-finals) will automatically qualify for the Under-17 World Cup.
Additional play-off matches between the teams that finish third in their groups will determine the remaining two African teams who qualify for the World Cup.
In April 2025, the Moroccan national team won the previous round of the U-17 African Cup of Nations, after defeating Mali.
