"Meet 3" discusses Wahbi's choices.
After much anticipation from football followers in Morocco, national coach Mohamed Wahbi revealed yesterday, Tuesday, the list of the national team that will participate in the upcoming World Cup.
Following the announcement of the list, guests on the program "Mita 3," broadcast by Hespress, highlighted the selected names, which included key players that Moroccan fans are accustomed to seeing in the "Atlas Lions" jersey, as well as players who have been called up for the first time.
In this context, former international player Hicham El Amrani stated that the list was dominated by the preservation of the core players of the national team, utilizing experienced names while injecting new blood into the squad by calling up younger players, such as Yassine Jassim, who was considered the only player called up from the youth team that won the World Cup.
El Amrani pointed out that the lineup included some surprises, such as the call-up of both Youssef Belaili, a player for Al Ahly of Egypt, and Ayoub Amimi, a forward for Eintracht Frankfurt in Germany.
For his part, sports critic Mohamed Maghoudi renewed his confidence in national coach Mohamed Wahbi, especially since the team is approaching a crucial phase before its participation in the World Cup, noting that the primary responsibility for the selection of the squad lies with Wahbi.
Regarding his opinion on the "Lions" list, Maghoudi revealed that he is not at all convinced by the presence of Munir Mohamedi, arguing that he has not played any matches for a long time, considering that his presence in the RS Berkane lineup is what justified his trip to the World Cup.
Maghoudi also expressed surprise at the call-up of Nayef Aguerd, who has not played any matches since March due to injury, indicating that Aguerd's connection with the Mohammed VI Academy is what granted him legitimacy to be with the "Atlas Lions" in the World Cup.
He also expressed his astonishment at the inclusion of both Belaili and Amimi in the list, stating that the latter is not well-known in the Moroccan football scene, emphasizing that Royal Army player Mohamed Rabi Hrimat was wronged by not being called up.
The sports critic added that the official players of the national team, such as Hakimi, Mazraoui, and Bounou, certainly deserve to be on the list, praising the selection of Reda Tagnaouti, adding that this represents a reward for his significant improvement in performance, as he was a crucial element within the Royal Army team.
He also confirmed that the strength of the coach's personality was evident in his selections; he did not call up some players that some expected to be included out of "sentiment."
