Wahbi: My contract is valid until the year 2030.
Mohamed Wahbi, the coach of the Moroccan national football team, clarified that what the national team is experiencing today is not related to rebuilding as much as it is a "new era in continuity with a previous project."
Wahbi emphasized, in an interview with "beIN Sports," that Moroccan football does not set limits for itself, and that the standard of judgment is always related to competition on the field rather than preconceived expectations or external rankings.
Regarding his relationship with the Royal Moroccan Football Federation, the national coach stated that his contract extends until 2030, confirming that his current focus is entirely on the 2026 World Cup as it is the nearest and most important challenge at this stage.
Concerning preparations, Wahbi stressed that "the focus is entirely on 2026," considering that building a strong team for the 2030 finals goes through achieving readiness and competitiveness in the upcoming challenges, foremost among them the next World Cup.
As for the recent Africa Cup of Nations and its aftermath following the final events, Wahbi noted that the succession of international competitions has contributed to accelerating some corrective aspects, pointing out that "the World Cup helps a lot when you have a short-term goal."
Regarding the criteria for his final squad selections, Wahbi explained: "The most ready and the best level are simply chosen," emphasizing that a player's position in the ranking can change at any moment, saying: "Today, there may be first, second, and third choices; but one match or one injury could completely change this ranking."
The coach of the "Atlas Lions" also highlighted that the philosophy of work within the team is not based on the stability of names; rather, it is based on continuous competition, adding: "When we talk to the players, we talk about competition and giving time to all players in friendly matches, this always highlights that no one is sure of being present in the World Cup, no one."
At the level of the technical staff, Wahbi revealed that the work relies on a precise analysis of players and opponents, and the division of roles within the coaching staff, saying: "We spend a very long time choosing game plans, as well as individual analysis of players and comparisons by positions."
Regarding his hiring of João Sacramento as an assistant, the national coach clarified that his choice was not based on prior knowledge; rather, it was a conviction formed after direct communication with him, saying: "I didn't know Sacramento at all before... after about an hour of talking, I told him and the officials: I want him," adding that he is looking for someone within the staff who "challenges me as well" and provides a different perspective in daily work.
