Bietković will coach Algeria until 2028.
The Swiss coach Vladimir Petkovic, who has been leading the Algerian national team since 2024, has extended his contract to continue his duties until July 2028, just a few days before the start of the 2026 World Cup, as announced by the Algerian Football Federation.
In a statement published on its official website, the federation noted that Petkovic, who was appointed head of the national team's technical staff on February 29, 2024, "has achieved remarkable results since taking on the role."
The federation confirmed that "the continuation of technical stability at the head of the national team reflects the ambition and desire to achieve positive results in the upcoming international competitions."
Petkovic, who is 62 years old, succeeded coach Djamel Belmadi following the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, where the Algerian team was eliminated in the first round.
The Swiss coach of Bosnian descent became available after being dismissed from his position at French club Bordeaux in February 2022, following a difficult start to the season that ultimately ended with the team's relegation to the French second division.
Prior to that, Petkovic managed the Swiss national team from 2014 to 2021, and he won the Coppa Italia with Lazio in 2013.
Since taking charge of the "Desert Warriors," Petkovic has led the team to a series of positive results, achieving 21 victories, four draws, and only three defeats, according to the Algerian federation's statement.
The Algerian national team will compete in the 2026 World Cup in North America from June 11 to July 19, in Group D, alongside the defending champions Argentina, Jordan, and Austria.
