The French national team has joined the ranks of those qualified for the Round of 32 of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, following their valuable victory with a clean sheet of three goals against the Iraqi team today, Tuesday, in Coordinated Universal Time, as part of the second round of matches in Group 9.
The match took place in Philadelphia, USA, as part of the tournament currently being held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
The start of the second half was delayed for two hours due to heavy rain that fell on the match stadium, marking the first stoppage in the current edition of the World Cup due to adverse weather conditions.
French star Kylian Mbappé took center stage in his 100th international match wearing his national team's jersey, after scoring the first and second goals for "Les Bleus" in the 14th and 54th minutes.
Mbappé raised his tally to 16 goals in World Cup finals, equaling the record of former German player Miroslav Klose in second place among the tournament's all-time top scorers, two goals behind Argentine Lionel Messi, who leads the list.
Ousmane Dembélé added the third goal for the French team, scoring his first goal in the current edition of the tournament.
With this victory, the French national team increased its points to 6 at the top of the group, securing its qualification for the Round of 32, while the Iraqi team remained in fourth place with no points.
