The Senegalese Football Federation has reached an agreement with former French international player Patrick Vieira to take over as the head coach of the "Lions of Teranga," according to a news report released today, Tuesday.

The website "Africa Soccer" reported, citing its sources, that the two parties have come to an agreement, noting that Vieira, the former captain of English club Arsenal, has already begun discussions with officials from the Senegalese Football Federation after arriving in the capital Dakar on July 29.

News reports revealed that Vieira presented his coaching project and explained his vision for the future of the Senegalese national team as part of his preparations for a potential return to coaching.

The same source added that the official confirmation of Vieira's appointment is expected to be delayed due to ongoing contractual disputes with Senegalese coach Pape Thiaw.

The Senegalese Football Federation is currently working to finalize arrangements regarding Thiaw's compensation package before announcing Vieira's appointment, as it seeks to avoid any complications in its preparations for the transition of the team's coaching leadership to the French coach.

According to "Africa Soccer," if an agreement with Thiaw is not reached before next September, reports indicate that the national team's technical director may temporarily lead the team until the federation completes the procedures.

It is worth noting that Vieira, who has previously coached clubs such as Crystal Palace in England and Nice in France, has not held any coaching position since leaving Strasbourg in 2023.
