Tunisian club Esperance opens negotiations with Boufal.
Esperance Sportive de Tunis continues its movements in the summer transfer market, placing Moroccan international Sofiane Boufal among its main targets, as part of its efforts to strengthen its attacking arsenal before the start of the new season.
According to Tunisian media reports, the management of Esperance has begun negotiations with the Moroccan international, who is currently without a club, which gives the Tunisian team the opportunity to sign him on a free transfer, without incurring any costs related to buying his contract.
The same sources indicated that communications between the two parties have reached initial stages, with discussions focusing on financial aspects and the duration of the contract, while no official agreement has yet been reached to finalize the player's transfer to the Tunisian champions.
Esperance's interest in Boufal comes at a time when the player's name was previously linked to a return to Wydad Athletic Club, but the 32-year-old has not yet decided on his future, preferring to consider all available offers before making his final decision, knowing that European and Gulf clubs are also interested in his services.
Boufal has a distinguished professional experience in European leagues, having started his career with Angers in France, before making a strong impression with Lille, then moving to Southampton in a record deal for the club at that time. He has also represented Celta Vigo in Spain, Al Rayyan in Qatar, and Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, before concluding his last experience with Le Havre in France.
On the international level, Boufal has participated in 47 matches wearing the Moroccan national team jersey, scoring 8 goals, and he played a significant role in the historic achievement of the "Atlas Lions" during the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, when the team reached the semifinals for the first time in its history.
During his time playing with Le Havre in the second half of last season, the player participated in 17 matches in Ligue 1, scoring one goal and assisting four others, confirming that he is still capable of making an impact despite a decline in his consistency due to injuries in recent seasons.
