Fields near the white city are waiting for care.

Many neighborhood sports fields in the Casablanca districts are in a concerning state due to the neglect that has affected these sports spaces and the lack of ongoing monitoring and maintenance.

Many of these sports facilities, which were allocated significant financial resources to bring sports practice closer to youth and children within neighborhoods, have turned into spaces suffering from deteriorating equipment.

Fields that were supposed to serve as a refuge for thousands of youth are now closed to local children, while others are repeatedly shut down due to a lack of maintenance.

Municipal advisors confirmed that several neighborhood fields have become unsuitable for sports practice, as the surfaces have been damaged and the fences need urgent repairs, in addition to the absence of regular monitoring of the quality of services provided to beneficiaries.

Hassan Selahmi, an advisor at the Hay Hassani district council, stated that "neighborhood fields are considered a public investment directed towards youth, and it is unacceptable for them to turn into neglected facilities just a few years after their opening," adding that the current phase requires a comprehensive audit of the condition of these facilities and identifying the responsibilities related to their deterioration.

Selahmi emphasized, in a statement to the Hespress newspaper, that it is no longer acceptable to close some fields or for the quality of their services to decline, noting that elected officials are being questioned by the residents and civil society organizations about the lack of interventions for the maintenance and repair of these facilities.

In the Sidi Moumen district, municipal advisor Youssef Asmihero considered that the issue of neighborhood fields should be prioritized in terms of care, monitoring, and holding accountable anyone found negligent in the situation that these sports spaces are experiencing in various areas.

Asmihero, a member of the Democratic Left Federation, stressed in his statement that these spaces, which are utilized by some associations, require continuous maintenance, as they become unfit for sports practice.

The municipal advisor pointed out that these facilities also require stricter monitoring and the preparation of reports on the condition of each field, linking responsibility to accountability due to the irregularities and negligence in maintaining these facilities.

For his part, Ahmed Abrejja, head of the Public Facilities Committee at the Casablanca City Council, explained that a development company has been authorized to devise a plan for managing the public facilities related to sports affairs.
