"CAF" studies the increase of African Cup of Nations teams.

Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), revealed that the continental federation is working to expand the participation base in the Africa Cup of Nations, confirming that increasing the number of participating teams is part of a vision aimed at giving more countries the opportunity to appear on the continental stage, which contributes to raising the level of competition and developing football in Africa.

Motsepe explained during a press conference today, Wednesday, where he discussed the latest developments in African football, that CAF has made significant efforts and taken several steps to reach this direction, noting that the goal is not limited to organizing a larger tournament, but extends to enhancing opportunities for interaction and gaining experience for African teams.

The head of the governing body for football on the African continent confirmed that the future of African football is heading in a positive direction, considering that the development witnessed by African teams and clubs makes the dream of an African team winning the World Cup title more realistic in the coming years.

In another context, Motsepe addressed proposals to increase the number of clubs participating in the African Champions League and the Confederation Cup, explaining that the file is still under study within CAF, and that any decision in this regard will be the responsibility of the executive committee and the relevant authorities.

He pointed out that CAF is studying all proposals received from national federations, including the request submitted by the Egyptian Football Association regarding increasing the number of clubs participating in continental competitions, confirming that the matter is subject to specific criteria and regulations before any official decision is made.

Motsepe also praised the status of major African clubs, affirming his appreciation for all teams that contribute to raising the level of continental competitions, without favoring one club over another.

Regarding women's football, the CAF president announced an increase in the financial prize allocated to the champion of the Women's Africa Cup of Nations to two million dollars, in a move aimed at supporting the game and enhancing its development within the continent.

In conclusion, Motsepe reiterated his support for Somali referee Omar Abdul Qadir Artan, describing him as one of the continent's top referees, noting that what he experienced in the United States remains related to the procedures and sovereignty of the countries.
