Spanish goalkeeper Unai Simon was awarded the Golden Glove for the best goalkeeper at the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico, after playing a prominent role in leading his national team to win the world title for the second time in its history.

Simon contributed to Spain's victory over Argentina with a score of 1-0 in the final match held at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, which extended into extra time.

The Spanish goalkeeper entered the final match as a strong contender for the award, following his remarkable performance in the 2-0 win over France in the semifinals, surpassing French goalkeeper Mike Maignan, who was his main competitor before that match. Simon bolstered his chances by keeping a clean sheet in the final, outpacing Argentine goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez in the race.

Simon delivered an exceptional tournament, as he conceded only one goal during the eight matches he played in the World Cup, and he kept a clean sheet in seven matches, achieving a new record as the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in a single World Cup edition.

Thanks to this achievement, the Spanish national team holds the record for the most matches with clean sheets in a single World Cup edition, finishing the tournament with seven matches without conceding any goals.

Simon's historic streak of maintaining clean sheets ended at 649 minutes during the 2-1 victory over Belgium in the quarter-finals, marking the longest consecutive streak for a goalkeeper in World Cup history.
