Motsipe is proud of the performance of African teams.

Patrice Motsepe, the president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), stated that he is very proud of the performance of African teams in the 2026 World Cup, which concludes today with the final match between Argentina and Spain.

Motsepe said before the final match: “I am proud of all the African teams, and there will be meetings next Wednesday with the stars of the continent, aiming to achieve better performance in future editions of the World Cup.” He added in statements to beIN Sports: “We aim for one of the African teams to win the world title.”

Ten African teams participated in the 2026 World Cup, all of which qualified for the knockout stages except for Tunisia, which was eliminated in the first round during the group matches.

The teams of Algeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Cape Verde, Senegal, and South Africa were eliminated, while Egypt exited in the Round of 16 after losing to the defending champion Argentina. The standout performance came from the Moroccan team, which reached the quarter-finals and placed among the top 8 teams in this edition of the World Cup.

Patrice Motsepe concluded his statements by saying: “This edition is very successful, it is wonderful for football on a global scale, and it has shown the unique power of football to unite everyone, as well as the quality of football all around the world.”
