Dismissal of Tiaw from coaching the Senegal national team.

The Senegalese Football Federation dismissed the national team coach, Bab Tiaw, on Saturday, following the "Lions of Teranga" exit from the Round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup held in North America.

The Senegalese federation stated in a statement that its executive committee decided to initiate procedures to terminate Bab Tiaw's duties, along with all members of his coaching staff, after evaluating the team's results and future prospects, considering that the decision comes "in service of the higher interest of Senegalese football."

The Senegalese team began its campaign in the tournament with a loss to France, 3-1, then fell to Norway, 3-2, before achieving a significant victory over Iraq with a score of five goals to none, qualifying for the Round of 32 as one of the best eight teams that finished third.

In the match against Belgium, the Senegalese team led by two goals to none until the 86th minute, before conceding three goals, including a last-minute killer goal in extra time, thus exiting the tournament in the first round of the knockout stages.

Following the elimination, there was a rise in public demands for extensive changes within the team, and petitions calling for Tiaw's dismissal received significant support, with reports also mentioning tensions within the team's camp during the tournament.

Midfielder Bab Gaye increased the pressure after announcing that he would not represent the national team "as long as this coaching staff remains."
