England loses player Kwansah for two matches.
Jarell Kwanza was suspended for two matches after being sent off in the England vs. Mexico match in the Round of 16 of the World Cup.
The Bayer Leverkusen defender received a straight red card after a review by the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for his tackle on Jesus Gallardo in the second half at the Azteca Stadium, but Thomas Tuchel's men maintained their lead and achieved a historic victory with a score of 3-2.
The English Football Association announced that it is considering its options regarding the possibility of an appeal, but FIFA announced on Thursday that Kwanza will be punished with an immediate suspension, which will prevent him from participating in the quarter-final match on Saturday against Norway in Miami, and possibly in the semi-final match.
A statement from FIFA said: "FIFA's Disciplinary Committee has imposed the following sanction on England player Jarell Kwanza, who was sent off for receiving a straight red card during the 2026 World Cup match between Mexico and England, held on July 5, 2026, at Mexico City Stadium: 'A two-match suspension for violating Article 14 of FIFA's Disciplinary Code.'"
It continued: "The suspension will be served in the next match/matches of the England national team in the 2026 World Cup, in accordance with Article 69 of FIFA's Disciplinary Code."
