Poll: The French are confident about qualifying.
Just a few hours away from the anticipated summit between the "Atlas Lions" and the "Roosters," as part of the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, the French Institute for Public Opinion Studies "Ifop" published a survey today, Thursday, indicating that the majority of the French, 84 percent, trust their national teamās ability to win tonight against their Moroccan counterpart, thus qualifying for the next round of this tournament.
The data from the survey, conducted between the 7th and 8th of this month, which included a sample of citizens distributed by gender, age, and profession, showed that the level of confidence among the French in winning against the Moroccan national team is exceptionally high, surpassing previous football events; it did not exceed 74 percent in the match between France and Uruguay in the quarter-finals of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and 71 percent in the game against England in the last World Cup in Qatar.
In a related context, the overwhelming percentage of optimism among the French public does not obscure the existence of a more cautious and pessimistic group regarding the results of the upcoming match against Morocco. The data revealed that 16 percent of the French surveyed do not trust their teamās ability to qualify for the semi-finals at the expense of the Moroccan team, highlighting concerns among this group about the shocking surprises that major tournaments often bring, especially when facing teams of the caliber of the "Atlas Lions."
Moreover, the confidence of the French extends beyond just the possibility of winning tonight; it also encompasses the overall championship. Sixty-eight percent of them believe that their national team will win the World Cup currently being held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, while about 32 percent do not trust the possibility of winning this global title, indicating an awareness among this group of the pressures and pitfalls that characterize the advanced stages of the World Cup.
Nevertheless, the same figures indicate that the level of confidence in the "Roosters," led by coach Didier Deschamps, winning the World Cup title has surpassed the rate recorded before the final against Croatia in the 2018 World Cup, which ended with France winning its second global title.
Football fans will be treated tonight to a heavyweight football summit, bringing together the Moroccan and French teams in a match open to all scenarios, considering the human resources and tactical capabilities possessed by both teams, amid broad hopes and great aspirations from Moroccan fans to repeat the "Qatar Epic" and go far in this global tournament, led by national coach Mohamed Wahbi.
