The Swiss national team completes the lineup of qualifiers for the quarter-finals of the "2026 World Cup."
The Swiss national team qualified for the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, after defeating their Colombian counterpart 4-3 in a penalty shootout, following a goalless draw in both regular and extra time, in the match that took place in the Round of 16.
The Swiss team completed the lineup of teams advancing to the quarter-finals, setting up a meeting with the defending champion, the Argentine team, which had secured its spot earlier on Tuesday evening by defeating the Egyptian team 3-2 in a penalty shootout.
The match between Switzerland and Argentina is scheduled to take place on July 11 in Kansas City, with the winner set to face the qualifier from the England vs. Norway match in the semi-finals, which is scheduled for July 15 in Atlanta.
With this achievement, the Swiss national team matched its best performance in World Cup history, reaching the quarter-finals for the fourth time, following its previous successes in the 1934, 1938, and 1954 editions.
The Swiss team also succeeded in breaking the Round of 16 curse, having exited the competition at this stage in the last three editions, before finally overcoming it in the 2026 World Cup.
