Morocco creates global glory .. exceptional numbers after qualifying for the quarter-finals.
The Moroccan national team’s qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup, after defeating Canada with a clean three-goal victory, was not just a passage to a new round, but came accompanied by a series of records and historical achievements that affirm the status that the "Atlas Lions" now occupy on the global stage, both collectively and individually.
The Moroccan national team has become the first Arab team to reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in two different editions, having repeated the achievement of the Qatar 2022 World Cup, confirming its continued presence among the elite global teams.
The "Atlas Lions" also maintained their unbeaten record against North American teams in World Cup finals, having achieved their second victory over Canada, in addition to a previous win against Haiti.
The first half of the match against Canada witnessed an unprecedented statistic since the beginning of official record-keeping in the World Cup in 1966, consisting of only five shots compared to six yellow cards.
Azeddine Ounahi continued to etch his name in the World Cup records, becoming the first Moroccan player to score a brace in a single match during the knockout stages of the World Cup.
He also became the third African player to achieve this feat, after Cameroon's Roger Milla in the 1990 World Cup, and Senegal's Henri Camara in the 2002 edition.
Ounahi's first goal carried additional historical significance, as it became the 100th goal for Arab teams in the history of their World Cup participations, before Sofiane Rahimi raised the Arab tally to 102 goals in the tournament's history by scoring the third goal.
Achraf Hakimi continued to enhance his record as the most capped African player in World Cup finals, raising his tally to 15 matches.
