After eliminating Paraguay, France is set for a fiery matchup against Morocco in Boston.
The French national team secured their spot in the quarter-finals of the 2026 World Cup after a hard-fought victory over the Paraguay national team with a score of 1-0, in a match held at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, as part of the Round of 16, setting up a meeting with the Moroccan national team in the next round.
The French team dominated the first half, but faced a well-organized defensive setup from the Paraguay team, which succeeded in limiting the danger posed by the "Roosters" and did not allow them to create significant chances, except for a few timid attempts.
The first notable chance came in the 22nd minute through Kwadwo Koney, but the Paraguayan defense cleared his shot to a corner. Adrian Rabiot then shot over the goal in the 33rd minute, while Ousmane Dembélé's attempt went past the post in the 38th minute, ending the first half in a goalless draw.
With the start of the second half, France continued to apply pressure, but goalkeeper Orlando Gile excelled in saving Koney's attempt in the 54th minute, and thwarted another attempt following a corner three minutes later.
The only goal of the match came in the 70th minute when the referee awarded a penalty to the French team after reviewing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) for a foul committed against substitute Désiré Doué inside the penalty area, with Kylian Mbappé successfully converting it into a goal that granted the "Roosters" their ticket to qualification.
With this victory, the French team set up a meeting with the Moroccan national team in the quarter-finals, in an anticipated clash between the two teams on July 9 in Boston, USA.
