Canada's coach acknowledges the quality of the "Blacks."
American Jesse Marsch, coach of the Canadian national team, acknowledged the quality of the Moroccan players, confirming that the "Atlas Lions" knew how to take advantage of the opportunities presented to them to secure a 3-0 victory, despite believing that his players were the better side for long periods of the match that took place on Saturday in the Round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup.
Marsch stated in comments following the match that the Moroccan team possessed great quality in the final third of the field, which made the difference, explaining that Canada imposed its style in terms of pressure, rhythm, and the energy exerted by the players, especially during the first half and part of the second half.
The American coach added that his players respected the tactical plan set for the match and succeeded in pressuring the Moroccan team and constantly trying to regain possession of the ball, considering that his team was better in terms of tactical aspects and the desire to control the flow of the game.
Marsch expressed regret that his team was unable to open the scoring during the periods when they were the better side, noting that the course of the match changed after Azzedine Ounahi's goal at the beginning of the second half, which gave the Moroccan team an advantage that they exploited to widen the gap and secure their passage.
Despite the elimination, the Canadian coach praised the performance of his players, describing them as "fantastic," confirming that they adhered to the established plan and executed the instructions as required, but the attacking efficiency and the quality of the Moroccan players in finishing attacks tipped the balance in favor of the "Atlas Lions" in the end.
