Argentina escapes the trap of the stubborn "Green Cape" and reaches the Round of 16 in the "World Cup."
The Argentine national team, the reigning World Cup champion, qualified for the Round of 16 of the tournament with great difficulty, after defeating Cape Verde 3-2 in a Round of 32 match that went into extra time.
Lionel Messi, the captain of Argentina, shone by scoring one goal and assisting two others, as he put Argentina ahead in the 29th minute, and Deroy Duarte equalized for Cape Verde in the 59th minute.
In extra time, Lisandro Martinez once again put Argentina ahead in the 93rd minute, and Sydney Cabral equalized for Cape Verde again in the 103rd minute, before the decisive goal for the Argentine team was scored by Cape Verdean defender Dini Edilson, who accidentally put the ball into his own net in the 111th minute.
Argentina will face Egypt in the Round of 16 on July 7, after Egypt had previously won on Friday against Australia in a penalty shootout following a 1-1 draw.
