Tunisian newspapers: Morocco is a global football power.
Tunisian newspapers published on Wednesday, July 1, confirmed that the Moroccan national football team’s elimination of the Dutch team from the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup is an "achievement" that will have a positive impact on the morale of the Atlas Lions, "a global football power," in the remainder of the tournament.
In this regard, the newspaper (Al-Shorouk) wrote that the Moroccan team "has proven to be a global football power not to be underestimated" in the 2026 World Cup, noting that the Moroccan lineup has become a model in terms of tactics and harmony, especially with the partnerships and offensive creativity of the team's stars.
It continued that the Moroccan team has continued to write new chapters in its history in the World Cup, after it snatched the qualification ticket from its Dutch counterpart through penalties in a match that held its breath until the last moments and reaffirmed the exceptional character of the "Atlas Lions."
It highlighted that the Moroccan team showed great mental toughness and an immense ability to come back in the match despite trailing, securing qualification thanks to their composure in the penalty shootout and setting up a date with Canada in the Round of 16.
Speaking about the Moroccan goalkeeper, the newspaper pointed out that the night of the "Atlas Lions" qualifying for the Round of 16 of the World Cup was not just an ordinary sports passage, but turned into a historic night in which the legendary goalkeeper Yassine Bounou announced the birth of a new school in "the art of goalkeeping," captivating the minds and hearts of social media audiences with his unconventional style in saving penalties.
For its part, the newspaper (Al-Maghrib) noted that the Moroccan team achieved a new feat by knocking out one of the giants of European football, which some had predicted to be a strong contender for the title.
It pointed out that this achievement will have a positive impact on the players' morale to "take additional steps on the road to the final and why not gift the African continent its first World Cup," in a challenging mission, yet not impossible given the capabilities and stars of the Moroccan team playing in the biggest European leagues.
Meanwhile, the newspaper (Al-Sabah) considered that the brilliance of goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the penalty shootout led Morocco to reach the Round of 16 of the World Cup at the expense of the Netherlands, highlighting that Bounou, known for his skill in saving penalties, anticipated the angle in which Cresencio Summerville would take the fifth penalty for the Netherlands and saved it, before Ismail Sabiri scored the decisive penalty.
