The Mexican national football team continued its successful path in the 2026 World Cup, having secured a spot in the Round of 16 after defeating their Ecuadorian counterparts 2-0 today, Wednesday, Coordinated Universal Time, in the Round of 32 of the tournament hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
On the pitch of "Mexico City Stadium," Julian Quinones opened the scoring for the Mexican team in the 22nd minute, before his veteran teammate Raul Jimenez doubled the lead by scoring the second goal in the 31st minute.
The Ecuadorian team finished the match with ten players after their defender Piero Hincapie was sent off in the fifth minute of stoppage time in the second half.
The Mexican team will face the winner of the match between England and the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the Round of 16 on July 5, as scheduled for this evening local time, in the Round of 32.
