Koeman: Morocco is stronger than the teams that faced the Netherlands in the World Cup.
Ronald Koeman, the coach of the Dutch national football team, emphasized that he was not afraid of his Moroccan counterpart during their match in Monterrey, Mexico, in the Round of 32 of the "North American World Cup," confirming that he is not considering resigning from his position at this time.
Koeman said in a press conference following the loss to the "Atlas Lions" on penalties: "We chose a different defensive tactic, and we were less effective in attack. We should have posed a threat on the left wing; however, we failed to do so, and on the right wing, they faced a lot of difficulties."
The coach of the "Oranje" added on this occasion: "We allowed Morocco to score the equalizer; this was an unfortunate moment for us, which led to extra time and penalties."
He continued, reproaching the media for criticizing his reliance on five defenders: "We applied the same tactic we used in our previous matches; however, we were more disciplined today against a team stronger than the teams we faced before... If I had to do it again, I would."
The same speaker added: "I will be criticized for playing with five defenders, but what I did was necessary, and I discussed it with the team; previously, we allowed vast spaces, and if we had played like that, the result would not have been the same today."
He added: "You (the journalists) see things from the outside, and I see them from the inside... If I have to repeat that, I will. Why fear Morocco? We played with three forwards; the lineup is not based on fear but on what we analyzed regarding the strengths and weaknesses of the opponent. I made this decision on scientific grounds, and I will not change it."
Koeman indicated that he is not thinking about resigning now, stating: "I will think about that in the future; I will reflect, consider, and come to a conclusion. Not resigning does not mean that I do not take responsibility."
