Cape Verde coach: Nothing is impossible.
Bobbysta, the head coach of the Cape Verde national football team, confirmed that "nothing is impossible" after his team successfully secured a spot in the Round of 32 of the 2026 World Cup, setting up a match against Argentina led by Lionel Messi.
The goalless draw against the Saudi national team was enough to grant Cape Verde the second place in Group H, finishing one point ahead of Uruguay, who came in third.
With this third draw, Cape Verde maintained its unbeaten record in its first-ever World Cup appearance, while celebrations erupted across the country after confirming their qualification, benefiting from Uruguay's loss to Spain in the other match of the group.
The British news agency "PA Media" reported that Cape Verde, an African nation with a population of just over 500,000, will face the defending champions Argentina in Miami next Friday in the Round of 32.
Few expected the team, ranked 67th in the FIFA World Rankings, to advance from a group that included Spain and Uruguay, but it is now set for a showdown with Lionel Messi, who has been performing exceptionally in the tournament.
Coach Bobbysta said during the press conference after the match: "For us, nothing is impossible," adding: "We should feel proud, we and the people of Cape Verde, of what this team has achieved. Above all, we are proud of the opportunity to face the Argentina national team."
The coach continued: "From the beginning, one of our goals was to introduce our country to the world," concluding his remarks by saying: "Being able to face Argentina and Lionel Messi at this stage of the tournament is a wonderful thing for our country, regardless of the outcome of the match itself."
