Unlike Spain and Cape Verde, Saudi Arabia and Uruguay are out of the World Cup.
The Spanish national team defeated their Uruguayan counterpart 1-0 this morning, Saturday, Coordinated Universal Time, in the third and final round of the group stage of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Alex Baena scored the only goal of the match in the 42nd minute, leading the Spanish team to seven points, topping Group H.
For the first time, the Spanish national team completed the group stage of the World Cup without conceding a goal, after drawing 0-0 with Cape Verde, winning against Saudi Arabia 4-0, and then defeating Uruguay 1-0.
The match saw the red card of Agustin Canobbio, a Uruguayan player, in stoppage time of the second half, after receiving a second yellow card.
On the other hand, the Saudi national team was eliminated from the FIFA World Cup after drawing 0-0 with Cape Verde, at the same time the match between Spain and Uruguay took place, in the third and final round of Group H of the tournament currently held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada.
The draw was enough for Cape Verde, which is participating in the World Cup for the first time, to reach the Round of 32 and continue its adventure in the tournament.
Both teams failed to score throughout the two halves of the match, as their players squandered all the chances that came their way during the ninety minutes, leaving each with just one point.
With this result, Cape Verde raised its tally to 3 points in second place in the group, setting up a date in the Round of 32 with Argentina, the defending champion and leader of Group J, on July 3 in Miami.
Meanwhile, the Saudi team remained in fourth place with 2 points, officially exiting the competition.
