Ajax Amsterdam signs Moroccan Zahwani.
Ajax Amsterdam, the Dutch club, announced today, Friday, that it has reached an agreement with the Tawraka Union for the transfer of young Moroccan defender Fouad Al-Zahwani to its ranks, with a contract extending until June 30, 2029, pending the completion of some administrative procedures related to the deal.
The Dutch club clarified in an official statement that Al-Zahwani will initially join the Ajax Under-23 team as part of the sports project the club has set up to develop and refine young talents before promoting them to the first team.
Ajax pointed out that the Moroccan left-back received his first call-up to the national senior team during the summer of 2025 and played his first international match against Tanzania in the African Championship for local players, before later contributing to the Moroccan U-20 team's victory in the World Cup.
After signing with the Dutch club, Al-Zahwani expressed his great happiness about embarking on this experience in a statement to the official website, confirming that he understands the value of Ajax and its rich history in producing stars.
The Moroccan player said: “Ajax has had great players and prominent stars like Johan Cruyff, as well as Moroccans Hakim Ziyech and Noussair Mazraoui, who played at the highest levels. I dream of becoming one of them, God willing.”
He added: “I am a left-back, and I consider Noussair Mazraoui the player I have always looked up to as a model. I have both offensive and defensive instincts, and I hope to add value to the team, to meet the expectations of the club that has placed its trust in me, and to make my mark with Ajax.”
Al-Zahwani's transfer to Ajax marks a new milestone in the career of the promising player, who aspires to continue developing within one of the most famous European clubs in player development, hoping to follow in the footsteps of Moroccan names that have previously shone in the Dutch team's jersey.
