World Cup Journey: A Guide for Moroccan Fans to Mexico and Travel Costs
The Mexican city of Monterrey is preparing to host the top match in the round of 32 of the World Cup between the Moroccan national team and their Dutch counterpart. The "FIFA" guide for fans heading to this city provides a comprehensive and clear plan regarding prices and transportation options to the stadium.
The match will take place at the Estadio Monterrey (BBVA), and FIFA recommends that fans plan their trip early and familiarize themselves with the transportation, landmarks, and services available in the city.
According to the same source, staying in central Monterrey or in the Barrio Antiguo and San Pedro areas is among the most convenient options for fans, due to easy access to the stadium and the abundance of hotels and restaurants. Prices for accommodations start from 250 to 500 pesos (about 14 to 28 dollars) per night, while mid-range hotels and homes range from 1500 to 3000 pesos (83 to 165 dollars), and may rise to 4000–9000 pesos (222 to 500 dollars) as the tournament progresses due to increased demand.
For transportation within Monterrey, the Metrorrey metro remains the least expensive option, with a single trip costing only 4.5 pesos (about 0.25 dollars). Uber or DiDi ride-hailing services can also be used to reach the stadium, with prices expected to rise and congestion anticipated on match days, so the guide advises relying on the metro as much as possible.
Regarding food, according to the same document, Moroccan fans can enjoy a meal from taco or gorditas stalls for 60 to 120 pesos (3.3 to 6.7 dollars), while a meal at a mid-range restaurant known for its cabrito or grilled meat dishes ranges from 350 to 700 pesos (19 to 39 dollars) per person. Drink prices range from 50 to 120 pesos (2.8 to 6.7 dollars).
The official fan zone is located in Parque Fundidora, where matches can be watched and recreational activities enjoyed. The city has also designated a pedestrian path about 8 kilometers long connecting central Monterrey to the BBVA stadium, in addition to access via the first metro line to the Exposición station and then walking through the designated fan path, according to "Euronews," based on FIFA's recommendations.
