Wahbi: Our journey in the World Cup starts now.
Mohamed Wahbi, the coach of the Moroccan national football team, expressed his satisfaction following the "Atlas Lions" victory over the Haitian team with a score of four goals to two, in the match that took place in the third and final round of the group stage of the World Cup, confirming that the national team delivered one of its most dominant performances ever in the competition.
Wahbi stated in comments after the match that the main goal was to achieve victory and wait for the results of the rest of the group, explaining: "The goal was to win the match and try to finish the first round at the top based on the results... It is true that we did not deliver the ideal first half, but not in terms of intentions or style of play, as we were the controlling side and created many opportunities that we could have scored more from."
The national coach added: "I had warned the players about the need to remain calm, as we rushed too much in search of goals, which sometimes divided the team into two parts... The Haitian team was playing its last match and wanted to leave with a good image, so they kept three players in the front line at times; this created some gaps in our system and made us suffer at certain moments."
The speaker continued: "But I don't think Morocco has ever dominated a match in the World Cup in this way. I don't remember a match where we created this number of opportunities... There are many positives, and we must continue to work while maintaining confidence... Our real journey in the World Cup starts today."
Regarding his player selections during today's match, Wahbi said: "I am satisfied with the choices we made... We must understand that it is not easy for a player who has not yet participated in this tournament to start as a starter... For this reason, I did not want to make a large number of changes, as players need to regain their match rhythm... We saw that some who did not participate much faced difficulties in the first half and improved their performance in the second."
The captain of the "Atlas Lions" continued: "When we learned that Brazil was ahead while we were tied 2-2, our primary goal was to win the match... At the same time, we were also thinking about managing the effort of some players in anticipation of the Round of 32 match... I am very happy with the way we finished the match. We did not win in the way we initially wanted, but we won in the end, and that is what matters."
Wahbi added regarding the next stage: "We will move to Mexico, as I said earlier... We aspired to go to Houston; but we will play in Monterrey, yet the ambition and goal remain the same... The group is happy with this victory, as it fought for it, and we will continue to progress with confidence, work, and humility... No matter who the next opponent is, we are waiting for them and ready to compete."
