Morocco advances from the group stage for the third time in the history of its World Cup participations.
For the third time in its history of participating in the World Cup finals, after the editions of 1986 and 2022, the Moroccan national team managed, today Thursday in Coordinated Universal Time, to secure a ticket to the second round of the 2026 World Cup.
This achievement came after the "Atlas Lions" defeated the Haitian national team with a score of 4-2, in the third and final round of the group stage, in a match held in Atlanta, USA.
The Haitian team was the first to score with an own goal by goalkeeper Yassine Bounou in the tenth minute, before captain Achraf Hakimi equalized for the Moroccan team in the 39th minute.
Haiti then took the lead again through Wilson Isidor in the 43rd minute with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, but Ismail Sabiri brought the match back to square one by scoring the equalizer (2-2) in stoppage time of the first half.
In the second half, the changes made by national coach Mohamed Wahbi paid off with the first lead for the Moroccan team, as Sofiane Rahimi capitalized on a corner kick and found the net of goalkeeper Johnny Placide in the 78th minute, then Yassine Jassim scored in the 89th minute, giving the "Atlas Lions" a valuable victory.
In the second match of the same group, the Brazilian team triumphed over the Scottish team with a clean score of 3-0, finishing the group stage at the top with 7 points, ahead on goal difference of the Moroccan team, which also qualified for the next round in second place with the same points.
