The Qatari national team exited the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing to the Bosnia and Herzegovina team with a score of 3-1 in the third and final round of the group stage.
Kareem Alajbegovic opened the scoring for the Bosnian team in the 29th minute, before doubling their lead with an own goal by Qatari goalkeeper Mahmoud Abu Nida in the 34th minute. Hussein Al-Haydous reduced the deficit for the Qatari team by scoring their first goal in the 42nd minute.
In the 80th minute, Ermin Mahimetic scored the third goal for Bosnia and Herzegovina, securing his team's victory and finalizing the match result.
The Bosnian team raised their points to four, placing them third, trailing by goal difference behind the Canadian team in second place, while the Qatari team exited the competition with one point in last place in Group B.
In another match, the Swiss team defeated their Canadian counterparts 2-1 on Wednesday evening, securing the top spot in Group B of the 2026 World Cup held in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
All three goals of the match came in the second half, with Switzerland taking the lead through Ruben Vargas and Johan Manzambi in the 46th and 57th minutes, before substitute David Promes reduced the deficit for the Canadian team in the 76th minute.
With this victory, the Swiss team raised their points to seven at the top of the group, having started their campaign with a 1-1 draw against Qatar, followed by a 4-1 win over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Meanwhile, the Canadian team finished the first round in second place with four points, ahead on goal difference of the third-placed Bosnia and Herzegovina team, which is still waiting to determine its fate among the list of the best eight teams that finished in third place.
