The Algerian national team faces a survival test.
Bosnian Vladimir Petkovic, the head coach of the Algerian national team, stated that his team holds its fate in its hands when they face their Jordanian counterpart tomorrow morning, Tuesday, in the second round of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.
The Algerian team lost 3-0 in the first round against the Argentine team in Group 10, while the Jordanian team lost 1-3 to Austria.
The team known as the "Desert Warriors" could exit the tournament if they lose to Jordan, alongside Austria gaining a point against Argentina in the other match in the group.
Petkovic said in a press conference, "The one thing for sure is that we will try to take our fate into our own hands and deliver a performance worthy of our goal."
The last appearance of the Algerian national team in the World Cup was in the 2014 edition in Brazil, where the team reached the Round of 16 and hopes to achieve that again in the current edition of the tournament.
Petkovic clarified that his team was not bad against Argentina, explaining that facing Jordan will represent an important opportunity to showcase the team's capabilities, which was not available against the world champion Argentina.
The Algerian coach added, "We played well, but we were punished by the exceptional individual skills of Lionel Messi."
