Egypt tastes its first victory in the World Cup.
The Egyptian national team achieved a historic victory over their New Zealand counterpart with a score of 3-1 today, Monday, in the second round of Group G in the 2026 World Cup finals, keeping their hopes alive for qualification to the Round of 32 and reviving their aspirations for an unprecedented achievement on the World Cup stage.
The New Zealand team was the first to score through Finn Surman in the 15th minute, ending the first half with a lead of one goal to none, before the "Pharaohs" managed to turn the tables in the second half thanks to a remarkable offensive resurgence.
Mustafa Abdel Raouf Ziko equalized for the Egyptian team in the 59th minute, then Mohamed Salah added the second goal just eight minutes later, before Mahmoud Hassan Trezeguet secured the victory by scoring the third goal in the 82nd minute.
This victory represents the first win for the Egyptian national team in the history of their World Cup participations since their first appearance in the tournament in 1934, after failing to achieve any victory in their previous participations, settling for draws and losses.
The win also kept Egypt's hopes alive for reaching the knockout stage for the first time in their history, as the "Pharaohs" have never advanced beyond the group stage in all their World Cup participations, making the final round crucial in their quest to write a new chapter in the history of Egyptian football.
