Wahbi confirms his attacking option with the "Blacks."
The Moroccan national football team is following in the footsteps of the 2022 edition when they reached the semifinals in an unprecedented African and Arab achievement, winning against Scotland 1-0 on Friday in Foxborough, near Boston, in the second round of Group C matches in the World Cup in North America.
After a draw that felt like a victory against Brazil 1-1 in the first round, the "Atlas Lions" achieved their first victory in the current edition and the sixth in their World Cup history, putting one foot in the Round of 32 while awaiting their final third match against Haiti, which was eliminated from the competition on the 24th of this month.
So far, their journey is similar to what they did before in the Qatar World Cup, when they opened the finals with a valuable draw against Croatia (0-0), then defeated Belgium 2-0, before winning against Canada 2-1 in the third round.
The new coach of Morocco seemed happy with the victory and the three points, but he emphasized that "we have not qualified yet, so there is no room for rotation in the third match; I must field the best lineup to win it, considering the readiness of the players and the opposing national team, and it is certain that the ready and capable players to help us achieve victory over Haiti will be essential."
The coach, who confirmed after the draw with the Seleção that he wanted to take "a different path to reach further," appeared very confident in the improvement of his players and their ability to perform better in the upcoming matches.
He added, "Honestly, I am quite comfortable compared to the first match against Brazil; I have seen significant improvement, and we will be better in the third match. This is the beauty of the World Cup when you face opponents who create different problems for you, and the end of today's match will help us in the last match."
Wahbi's influence has been significantly evident on the Atlas Lions compared to his predecessor Walid Regragui, especially in terms of offensive initiative and ball possession, even against strong teams like Norway, which had a perfect record in the European qualifiers against Italy, a four-time champion, and Brazil, the world record holder for the most titles in the World Cup (5).
Wahbi imposed his style of play, which does not rely on a traditional center forward and focuses on the midfield and wings, particularly with the interchange of roles among midfielders, as evidenced by the success of Ismail Sabiri, the attacking midfielder from PSV Eindhoven, in scoring twice.
After the victory over Scotland, he said, "When I took over the Moroccan national team, I wanted to highlight my mark and football principles by relying on many ideas that I believe in."
