The grants are straining the atmosphere of the Senegal national team.
The Spanish newspaper "Sport" revealed that an atmosphere of instability looms over the Senegalese national team's camp during their participation in the World Cup, due to a series of administrative and logistical problems that are affecting the "Lions of Teranga" preparations before facing Norway.
The report clarified that the Senegalese team, despite the strong performance they showed against the French team, where they were close to achieving a positive result before Kylian Mbappé decided the match in favor of the "Roosters," is experiencing a difficult situation behind the scenes, which may threaten the players' focus for the remainder of the tournament.
The same source indicated that the first crisis is related to financial bonuses, as the Senegalese players have not yet received the rewards they were promised, despite the Senegalese Football Federation having received significant financial revenues, including prizes from the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and the qualification grant for the World Cup.
The newspaper added that this situation has created a state of anxiety within the group, especially with the crucial match against Norway approaching, where the Senegalese team needs to achieve a positive result to maintain their chances of qualifying for the next round.
The report also discussed logistical problems related to the team's accommodation in the United States, where several players expressed their dissatisfaction with the chosen hotel conditions, considering them unsuitable for a team participating in the largest global football competition.
The problems did not stop there, as "Sport" pointed out that the reduction in the number of accompanying staff for the team led to the absence of the head chef who was present during the Africa Cup of Nations, which, according to reports, has affected the players' dietary side.
The crisis has been further complicated by the situation of coach Pape Thiaw, who has not received his salary for more than five months, in addition to his contract expiring, which puts the coaching staff in an unstable position during a sensitive period of the competition.
Despite these circumstances, the Senegalese team is betting on the experience of its players, led by Sadio Mané, to overcome the crisis and achieve a positive result against the Norwegian team led by Erling Haaland and Martin Ødegaard.
