The Netherlands national team crushes Sweden with a five-goal victory.
The Netherlands football team showed its teeth and made significant progress towards reaching the round of 32 in the 2026 World Cup, achieving a record number of consecutive matches without defeat in the finals (14 matches, not counting the loss on penalties), by overwhelming the Swedish national team with a score of five goals to one on Saturday in Houston, during the second round of Group 6 matches.
The start for the Netherlands was disappointing, as they only managed a draw against the Japanese national team (2-2), despite leading the score twice, entering the match against Sweden needing a win, especially since the latter had previously crushed the Tunisian national team (5-1) in the opening round.
The Dutch succeeded in achieving what was required thanks to a brace from both Brian Brobbey (in the 5th and 17th minutes) and Cody Gakpo (47th and 54th minutes), along with a goal from substitute Chrisensio Summerville in the 89th minute, marking their first victory in the World Cup against a European team since their significant win over the Spanish national team by five goals to one in the 2014 edition.
