The investigation chamber of the "Versailles Court of Appeal" confirms the referral of Hakimi to a criminal court.
The investigation chamber of the French Court of Appeal in Versailles decided today, Friday, to uphold the referral of Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, a player for Paris Saint-Germain, to the regional criminal court, after rejecting the appeal submitted by his defense to dismiss the charges.
This judicial development comes after months of procedures and investigations related to the case, as the judicial body deemed that the available data is sufficient to continue examining the case before the competent court, in preparation for holding trial sessions in the upcoming phase.
In statements reported by French media, the plaintiff's lawyer explained that the court's decision was based on a judicial assessment that concluded there are indicators and data that warrant referring the Moroccan player to criminal court, considering that the decision aligns with the findings of the investigation and previous opinions of the public prosecutor's office.
On the other hand, Achraf Hakimi continues to assert his innocence regarding the charges against him, after his defense previously requested the case to be closed and not to continue pursuing it, affirming since the beginning of the case his rejection of all accusations related to these events.
The case dates back to 2023, when a young woman filed rape allegations against the Moroccan national team's right-back regarding events that occurred during the same period, leading to the continuation of the judicial process over the past years before the investigation phase concluded with a decision to refer the case to court.
