Real Madrid signs Portuguese Bernardo Silva.
Real Madrid, the Spanish football club, signed Portuguese midfielder Bernardo Silva today, Wednesday, with a contract lasting two seasons, as announced by the Spanish capital club.
The Portuguese international joins the ranks of the "Royal Club" on a free transfer, after concluding a successful nine-year career with Manchester City in England following the expiration of his contract at the end of last season. His contract with Real Madrid will last until June 30, 2028.
Silva played 459 matches for City since joining the team from Monaco in the French league in 2017, during which he scored 76 goals.
The Portuguese player won 15 major titles with City, including four consecutive titles in the Premier League between 2021 and 2024, in addition to the historic treble that included winning the UEFA Champions League title in 2023, as well as clinching all four domestic titles during the 2018-2019 season.
After Real Madrid failed to win any major title for two consecutive seasons, Florentino Pérez, the re-elected president of the club, decided to appoint Portuguese José Mourinho as the team's coach earlier this June.
The Royal Club announced on Monday that it had signed Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea in a deal reportedly worth 55 million euros (63.8 million US dollars).
"Los Blancos" are also preparing to sign French defender Ibrahima Konaté following the expiration of his contract with Liverpool; meanwhile, the club has also been linked with a move for Dutch player Denzel Dumfries from Italian club Inter Milan.
