The Jordanian national team opened its first participation in the FIFA World Cup finals with a loss to the Austrian team, with a score of 1-3, this Wednesday morning according to Coordinated Universal Time, in the first round of the tenth group in the 2026 World Cup held in the USA, Mexico, and Canada.

The Jordanian team, under the supervision of Moroccan coach Jamal Salami, presented a competitive performance against Austria during many periods of the match. However, some individual mistakes and a lack of experience in such major events were behind the failure to achieve a positive result in its first appearance at the global celebration.

The Austrian team opened the scoring through Romano Schmid in the 20th minute, before Ali Alwan equalized for Jordan in the 50th minute, scoring the first goal in the history of the "Nashama" team in the World Cup finals.

Yazan Al Arab gave Austria the lead again after scoring an own goal in the 76th minute, before Marco Arnautovic concluded the match's goals by scoring the third goal from a penalty in the 12th minute of stoppage time in the second half.

With this result, the Austrian team earned its first three points in the group, occupying second place on goal difference behind the leading Argentine team, which won 3-0 against Algeria in the same round.

In contrast, the Jordanian team remained without points in third place, surpassing Algeria in goal difference, which is settled in last place.

The Jordanian team is expected to face the Algerian team in the second round, while the Austrian team will face the Argentine team in a group showdown.
