The "French Roosters" team beats the "Lions of Senegal" in the World Cup.
The duo of Mbappé led the French national team to a promising start with a clear and strong victory over Senegal 3-1.
Star Kylian Mbappé scored his fifty-seventh and fifty-eighth goals for the French national team when he opened and closed the scoring against Senegal (3-1) on Tuesday in East Rutherford, in the suburbs of New York, at the start of his journey in the 2026 World Cup in football, breaking the record for the most international goals in the history of his national team, previously held by Olivier Giroud.
With a precise pass from Mikaël Oliseh, the captain of the French team, who is 27 years old and has played 99 international matches, opened the scoring in the 67th minute of a match that had been very difficult for the French until that moment.
After a first half in which they did not shoot a single ball on target, Mbappé had two consecutive great chances: the first also from a pass by Oliseh, which was saved by Senegal's goalkeeper Édouard Mendy, and the second when he lost his balance inside the area following a challenge from Sadio Mané, appealing in vain for a penalty that was not awarded.
In stoppage time, after Senegal reduced the deficit, Mbappé unleashed a stunning shot from a distance that shook Mendy's net.
