Real Madrid extends the contract with Rüdiger.
The Spanish football team Real Madrid has extended the contract of its German defender Antonio Rüdiger for an additional season, specifically until 2027, as announced today, Tuesday, by the second division of the Spanish league for the same sport in the past season.
The royal club stated in a statement: “Real Madrid and Antonio Rüdiger have agreed to extend our player's contract, which will keep him at the club until June 30, 2027.”
Rüdiger, who is 33 years old, joined the Spanish capital club from Chelsea in 2022, after previously playing for Stuttgart in Germany and Roma in Italy.
Rüdiger won the La Liga title, the UEFA Champions League in 2024 with Real Madrid, and the Copa del Rey in 2023.
After the team failed to win major titles for two consecutive seasons, Florentino Pérez, the president of Real Madrid, appointed Portuguese José Mourinho as the team's coach earlier this month after being re-elected.
The royal club announced on Monday the signing of Spanish left-back Marc Cucurella from Chelsea. Portuguese Bernardo Silva and Dutch Denzel Dumfries have also been linked with a potential move to Real, which is set to sign French defender Ibrahima Konaté from Liverpool at the end of his contract at Anfield.
