Moroccans praise the performance of the "Atlas Lions" and demand greater offensive effectiveness.
The Moroccan national football team began its journey in the 2026 World Cup, hosted by the United States alongside Mexico and Canada, with a positive draw against its Brazilian counterpart, with one goal in each net. The teammates of captain Achraf Hakimi took the lead in the score since the twentieth minute through player Ismail Sabari, before Vinicius Junior equalized for the "Seleção" in the thirty-second minute.
This result elicited mixed reactions in the football community in Morocco, with some describing it as positive against a team of Brazil's caliber, considering it one of the reference teams globally, while others felt that the "Lions" squandered two important points, believing that the Moroccan team was closer to winning the match.
In light of this paradox, experts believe that the squad of national coach Mohamed Wahbi demonstrated several positive aspects in this match; however, this does not negate the existence of areas for improvement in some aspects during the upcoming matches.
Majid Al-Khal, a sports analyst, stated that the most significant positive gains that the Moroccan team achieved from the match against Brazil were the strong character displayed by the players against a world-class opponent, in addition to tactical discipline and the ability to maintain balance between defensive and offensive aspects.
Al-Khal pointed out, in a statement to Hespress, that the reaction after periods of pressure was good; which reflects a development in collective maturity and self-confidence, as he expressed.
The sports analyst added that the Moroccan team appeared, offensively, more diverse in building attacks and creating opportunities, noting the clear presence of fighting spirit and the desire to compete until the last minutes.
Despite these positives, the same speaker pointed out the existence of aspects that can be developed, particularly improving effectiveness in front of goal and better capitalizing on opportunities; in addition to raising the level of harmony in some defensive and offensive transitions when losing the ball, emphasizing that dealing with pressure periods against major teams requires more calmness and focus.
