Demnat hosts mountain running champions.
The city of Demnat in the Azilal region hosted yesterday, Sunday, the first edition of the mountain running race "Trail Demnat," with the participation of more than 140 male and female runners from various regions of the kingdom, competing in distances of 12 and 26 kilometers, amidst the natural and historical landscapes that the area boasts.
This sporting event, organized by the Demnat Generations Association for Cycling and Mountain Sports in partnership with several local stakeholders and actors, aims to encourage the practice of mountain sports and to promote the natural and tourist potential that the city of Demnat and its surroundings possess.
The race saw the participation of 96 competitors in the 12-kilometer distance, while 50 participants competed in the 26-kilometer distance. Both routes passed through several distinctive natural and historical sites in the area, including forests, mountain paths, and heritage landmarks that are part of Demnat's local identity.
In the men's 26-kilometer category, the first place went to runner Ibrahim Khalifa from Azilal with a time of 1 hour, 36 minutes, and 31 seconds, followed by Nasser Dahbi in second place with a time of 1 hour, 36 minutes, and 32 seconds; while Mehdi Ait Mdouh came in third with a time of 1 hour, 37 minutes, and 37 seconds.
In the women's 12-kilometer race, Fadwa Roushdine secured first place with a time of 47 minutes and 15 seconds, ahead of Kawtar Alhamra, who finished second with a time of 47 minutes and 21 seconds, while the third place went to Hasna Roudine with a time of 48 minutes and 43 seconds.
The organizers of the event confirmed that this initiative aims to establish an annual sporting event that contributes to highlighting the natural and environmental potential of Demnat, encouraging sports tourism and the local economy, as well as promoting a culture of sports and nature-related activities among various age groups.
The event also featured spaces for reception and activities, as well as the awarding of winners, alongside the mobilization of several volunteers and partners to ensure the successful organization of this first edition, which took place in a positive sporting and organizational atmosphere.
