Reports: Real Madrid agrees with Cucurella.
Real Madrid, the runner-up in the Spanish football league, has reached an agreement with English club Chelsea to sign international defender Marc Cucurella after the World Cup for a deal worth $63 million, according to media reports on Sunday.
The 27-year-old left-back joined Chelsea from Brighton in 2022, after progressing through the academy of Spanish league champions Barcelona, and later moving to Getafe.
Florentino Pérez, president of Real Madrid, appointed Portuguese José Mourinho (63 years old) as the team's coach this week after he previously managed the royal club between 2010 and 2013, following his re-election earlier this month, after two seasons without winning any major titles.
The royal club is preparing to sign Frenchman Ibrahima Konaté, a defender for Liverpool, when his contract with the Reds expires. Reports also mentioned the possibility of signing Portuguese Bernardo Silva, who is not currently with any club, and Dutchman Denzel Dumfries from Inter Milan.
Chelsea finished in tenth place in the Premier League last season after disappointing results, and Cucurella criticized the decision to sack Italian coach Enzo Maresca in January.
Cucurella, who had two years left on his contract at Stamford Bridge, won the Club World Cup and the Conference League in 2025 with the Blues.
