"Trail Chefchaouen" crowns Sofia Sirig.
Moroccan runner Sofia Serij won the women's title, and Swiss runner Jan Olarandi won the men's title at the third edition of the Chefchaouen Trail Race, which concluded yesterday, Sunday, at the Talsmantan National Park.
The titles were awarded to the winners after calculating the results of the three stages that took place between June 12 and 14, where the race represented a unique sporting and tourism competition that brought together runners from Morocco and several foreign countries in a unique experience that blended sport, nature exploration, and the spirit of adventure.
The competitions showcased a high level of athleticism, as in the two-stage race, the title went to Moroccan Hicham Alali and French Alexia Le Moine; while the 10-kilometer race saw Moroccan Mohamed Farouin and French Ortens Le Page crowned.
Participants traversed diverse paths through the heights of the Rif Mountains, passing through dense forests, green valleys, and rugged mountain trails, in an atmosphere that allowed them to enjoy the beauty of the region and discover its natural and cultural potentials.
The three-stage race was the highlight of the event, testing the runners' endurance and adaptability to different terrains over three consecutive days; while the two-stage race also attracted a significant number of participants, alongside the 10-kilometer race, which opened the door for amateurs and mountain running enthusiasts.
The event was not limited to the sporting aspect only; it also served as an opportunity to showcase the natural and environmental potentials of the region, as part of a vision aimed at promoting sustainable sports tourism and raising awareness of the importance of preserving the natural resources of the Moroccan Rif.
The edition also witnessed significant mobilization of volunteers, partners, and local authorities, along with support from the National Agency for Water and Forests; which contributed to the success of the event and solidified its position as one of the most prominent mountain running races in Morocco.
