Ibrahimovic: Hakimi deserves the punishment.
The former Swedish star Zlatan Ibrahimović criticized some refereeing decisions during the match that ended in a 1-1 draw between Brazil and Morocco, expressing his astonishment at the lack of punishment for Achraf Hakimi following his tackle on Brazilian Vinícius Júnior before the end of the first half.
During his appearance as an analyst on the American network "Fox," Ibrahimović stated that the incident warranted intervention from the referee, considering that player protection should be the primary standard in such cases, regardless of the players' names or the circumstances of the match.
He added that the tackle came late after Vinícius had passed his opponent, and its danger was evident, pointing out that the lack of consistency in refereeing decisions confuses players and fans, as similar situations are sometimes punished with a yellow or red card, while at other times they go unpunished.
The all-time top scorer for the Swedish national team believed that referees are required to assess the act itself and the potential risks it may entail, rather than merely looking at the final outcome of the tackle or the player's intent.
