The Qatari national team "Al Annabi" secures a historic point from Switzerland in the World Cup.
The Qatar national team snatched a historic point at the start of its journey in the 2026 World Cup, held in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, after drawing 1-1 against Switzerland in the dying moments on Saturday, in San Francisco Bay, California, as part of Group B.
It seemed that the first match for the Arabs, participating with eight teams in this expanded edition, would end in defeat after Switzerland took the lead in the 17th minute through Breel Embolo from a penalty kick, which was the first for his country in the history of its participation in the finals. This lead continued until the fifth minute of stoppage time, when Khoukhi Boualam scored the equalizer with a powerful header, giving Qatar its first point in its World Cup history, after losing all three of its matches on home soil in the 2022 edition.
