The World Cup extends the nightlife in Morocco.. Cafés and restaurants open their doors until dawn.
With the start of the 2026 World Cup competitions yesterday, and just one day remaining until the Moroccan national team's match against Brazil, local councils in various Moroccan cities have begun announcing decisions to extend the operating hours of cafes and restaurants, with variations in timing and the adopted format.
For example, the Marrakech municipality announced in a statement that the operating hours of restaurants and cafes will be extended until 4 AM, starting from June 11 until July 19, in order to facilitate the following and broadcasting of football matches during this period.
In Agadir, a well-informed source from the local council stated that the operating hours of cafes will be extended until 5 AM during the World Cup period.
In Tangier, a source from the local council reported that discussions are currently underway to reach a decision on the extension, noting that it has not yet been determined whether the decision will include all World Cup matches or just the national team's matches.
The local council of Ouarzazate also announced the extension of working hours for cafes and restaurants until the conclusion of the World Cup matches broadcast.
In Casablanca, Karim El Klaybi, a member of the Casablanca municipal council, clarified that as of now, there is no final or official decision imposing exceptional closures or reductions in operating hours for cafes in Casablanca due to the World Cup. He indicated that if any such decisions exist, they would be subject to legal and consultative processes with local and regional authorities, and would be issued in the form of clear official statements to the public.
El Klaybi confirmed, in a statement to Hespress, that the city council takes into account the balance between the interests of citizens and the requirements of the tourism and service sectors while maintaining public tranquility.
