Kurd: A big disappointment, but I accept the decision.
Moroccan international, Nayef Aguerd, revealed the reasons for confirming his absence from the World Cup just two days before the national team's opening match in the competition against Brazil, stating that it is not due to a new setback in terms of injury, but rather because he has not reached full physical readiness that would allow him to assist the team in the way he had hoped.
Aguerd posted a message on his personal Instagram account, starting by thanking everyone who supported him during the past period, saying: "First of all, I want to thank you for all the messages of support I received since yesterday morning. They affected me a lot," adding: "Unfortunately, I will not participate in the World Cup... This is not about a setback, but quite the opposite, I feel better day by day, and the injury is behind me... However, we, along with the technical staff, saw that my current level of readiness and performance is not yet sufficient to help the team as I had hoped during the group stage."
Aguerd continued, explaining that all the efforts made in recent weeks were not enough to reach the required readiness before the tournament began, clarifying: "Despite all the efforts that have been made in the past weeks, it became clear that I would not be physically ready at 100% at the start of the competition... It is a decision we made in agreement with the technical staff, in the interest of the team and the tournament."
He added: "I would like to express my sincere gratitude to the president of the federation for providing all the resources from day one until the last day to help me recover... I thank Dr. Christophe Boudo and all the medical staff for their support, both medically and psychologically, as this season has been extremely exhausting physically and mentally."
The Moroccan national team defender admitted his disappointment after failing in his race against time to make it to the global event, explaining: "I tried to return in time and regain my best form, but that was not possible within the required timeframe... It is certainly a disappointment, but I accept it with awareness and responsibility."
Aguerd concluded his message by affirming his full support for his teammates in the national team, saying: "From now on, I will be the first supporter of the national team... I wish all the success to my teammates in the World Cup and hope they make us proud... I am a player in the national team, but I am also a supporter above all, and I will stand behind them as you all will."
There were hopes regarding Aguerd's potential participation in the "World Cup" after he appeared in the national team's recent training sessions, but the injury he has been suffering from in the pubic bone, which has kept him off the field since March, prevented him from regaining full readiness in time.
