The Moroccan national team maintains its position in the FIFA ranking.
The International Football Federation announced today, Thursday, the new world ranking of national teams, following the completion of the last friendly matches before the start of the 2026 World Cup. The Moroccan national team maintained its presence among the elite of world teams, ranking seventh globally.
The "Atlas Lions" continued to make history in the international ranking, rising to seventh place, which is the best ranking achieved by the national team since the global ranking was established in 1993, surpassing the Netherlands, which dropped to eighth place.
The Moroccan national team will compete in the 2026 World Cup as one of the top seven teams in the world, a feat that reflects the stability the national team has experienced in recent years and the positive results it has achieved both continentally and globally.
At the top of the ranking, Argentina regained the top spot in the world ranking after winning two friendly matches in preparation for the World Cup, ahead of Spain, which came in second, while France dropped to third place. Meanwhile, England, Brazil, and Portugal maintained their positions among the top six.
This ranking holds special significance during the World Cup competitions, as it will be among the official criteria adopted by the International Football Federation to resolve certain tie situations between teams in the group stage, in addition to determining the best third-placed teams to qualify for the Round of 32 in case of continued ties after applying the other criteria stipulated in the tournament regulations.
