Danish Eriksen confirms he has overcome the danger.
Danish star Christian Eriksen confirmed that he is fine, adding that he has started a recovery program after leaving the hospital less than 24 hours after collapsing during a friendly match against Ukraine.
Eriksen, the former Tottenham and Manchester United star, said in a statement via his Instagram account on Monday: “I want to reassure everyone that I am fine and back home, and I am with my family.”
The Danish star had previously undergone surgery to implant a device to regulate his heartbeat after collapsing in 2021.
Eriksen added: “As you can imagine, receiving a shock from a pacemaker has a significant impact on me and my family, and I assure everyone that what happened is completely different from what occurred in 2021,” he continued: “I feel better, and I have already started my recovery journey.”
The player continued: “In addition to my gratitude for the help provided by all the players and doctors on the field, I am very thankful to the doctors who have overseen my condition over the past few years,” adding: “Thanks to the expertise of the doctors, the pacemaker has done its job, which is to protect me when needed.”
He concluded his message by saying: “I am currently focusing on the recovery process, spending time with my family, going on vacation, and playing football with my children.”
Earlier on Monday, the doctor of the Danish national football team said that player Christian Eriksen is “in good spirits” and is expected to leave the hospital soon after experiencing another collapse while playing for Denmark.
Eriksen, 34, placed his hands on his chest during the match without the ball, before collapsing to the ground in the 65th minute of the international friendly match between Denmark and Ukraine on Sunday in Odense, Denmark.
The Danish Football Association stated after the match that the midfielder left the field on foot by himself after receiving first aid from the medical staff, before undergoing further tests at Odense University Hospital.
In an update published by the association on Monday morning, Danish national team doctor Morten Boisen said: “I spoke with Christian this morning, and he is fine,” adding: “He is with his family and is in high spirits. The expectations are that he will leave the hospital soon and return home.”
Boisen clarified in the statement that the Danish Football Association “takes good care of the players and coaching staff and continues to communicate with them regularly.”
