Florentino PƩrez continues to preside over Real Madrid.
Florentino PƩrez won the Real Madrid presidential elections held yesterday, Sunday, in Valdebebas, surpassing his competitor Enrique Riquelme, thus renewing his term at the helm of the royal club until 2030.
PƩrez's victory was confirmed shortly after midnight, as the voting results showed his clear superiority, which most opinion polls had predicted throughout the voting day. Despite Riquelme's strong presence, who emerged as a potential future alternative, the current president succeeded in retaining his position for another term.
This is PƩrez's third election victory through the ballot box, having previously won in 2000 against Lorenzo Sanz, and then sweeping the 2004 elections with over 90% of the votes. Since his return to the presidency in 2009, he has not faced any competitors in the elections held in 2013, 2017, 2021, and 2025.
PƩrez's current term was set to last until 2029, but he decided to call for early elections a month ago, following a difficult sports season for the club, which saw a decline in results and some criticism of the club's image.
The election campaign witnessed escalating competition between the candidates, marked by mutual accusations and extensive discussions about the team's future and its transfers. PƩrez based his campaign on prominent names, including JosƩ Mourinho, Ibrahima KonatƩ, and Denzel Dumfries, who were announced as being linked to the club's projects during the election period.
The Real Madrid president also hinted at a major upcoming deal, confirming that he would reveal the identity of a new "GalƔctico" player on Tuesday, as part of a deal worth 150 million euros, amid speculation that the player could be Michael Olise.
